November 18th- 22nd

Multiple intelligence

At the start of the year we did a survey to find out our M.I. We had to answer different questions to find out what type of learner or intelligence we had.
We then made a classroom brain out of plasticine. Each student was given some plasticine to roll out and shape into one classroom brain. After the brain was complete, we wrote down our M.I. on a little tag to to stick it in the brain. We can use the brain to find out which students to go to for help. This creates a classroom community, where we can use the strengths of others for support.

Science project

In science we are learning about habitats and communities of all living things.
This week we did a poster on Canadian animals. Each student was randomly given a Canadian animal. They then had to make a poster about the animal by following criteria given. Before we started the poster we had to make a plan. They are on display in the classroom.

Art fauvism

We started an art project! We studied the art style that began in France in 1898 known as Fauvism. This style uses pure colours and strong brushstrokes. Together, the brushstrokes and colours evoke strong sensations and emotions to viewers.

We used markers to do this project. We worked with colours like red, orange, green, yellow and blue. We also traced our outlines in black.
We choose a landscape portrait and created an art piece based on the fauvism style.

Math centres

We did math centres this week. There were 9 different centres in the class. We spent 10min. at each centre. The math centres were a lot of fun!

At the start of the month, we changed desks and came up with new group names. The names are Koala, Requin, Jaguar, Pingouin.
In Social Studies, we started studying the world's continents and it's oceans. We did a test, and we all did really well.
Halloween
We wrote Halloween stories in French and recompiled them on Halloween stationary.
We also had our Halloween party. We got to wear our costumes. We had a lot of food to eat. We played lots of games and had lots of fun.
In E.L.A. We wrote Halloween Haiku poems.
Poetry
We have just finished two types of poems. We did a Halloween Haiku and wrote a cinquain poem. Next, we will be writing limericks.
Blocks de francais
We started a French speaking system in class. We have to speak in French in class or else we loose a block. The goal is to try an keep you ten blocks for the whole entire day. At the end of the day Mme. Writes how many block we have left on a chart paper. Each day we start new with our ten block. The system is working really well. We are learning to speak in French really well.
T.I.A
This term our T.I.A. Artist was Tibert le Voyageur. He showed us a lot of stuff about the voyageurs. We look ad objects, tools and clothing that the voyageurs used. We played games, sang songs and also learned about the fur trade. We had a great time learning about the voyageurs.
Math
We started exlporing place value in Math. In French the place values are called, unites, dizaines, centaines, milliers. Unite is a one digit number. Dizaines are a two digit number. Centaines are a three digit number and milliers are a four digit number.
Remembrance Day Assembly
We sang two songs for the Remembrance Day assembly. We also made a video with the grade 3 in Mme. Boychuck's class. The video was based on the book What does peace feel like. We all wrote and drew a picture about what does peace feel like for us.

Multiple Intelligences:
A while back we did a survey on multiple intelligences to find out what our intelligences are. We found out what we are good at and how we can use and depend on the strengths of others for help. This creates a real sense of classroom community.

I walk:
Last Wednesday we participated in the I Walk challenge. We walked all around the school yard as many times as we could to promote good health and exercise. It was kind of like the Terry Fox run but we were walking instead of running.

Immunization:
Ouch! We got needles last week. It didn't really hurt, but the happy part was we got cookies and juice...yum! After we waited for the other people getting their needles to come out, and they were fine as well.

What does peace....
Mme read the book What does peace feel like by Vladimir Radunsky. In groups we were given a large piece a paper to brainstorm what does peace feel like. We had to think about all the five senses. Then we each chose a sentence and drew a picture to go with it. The grade 3 class is doing the same. We will be creating a video with our sentences and showing it at the Remembrance Day assembly.

Thanksgiving cards:
Last week we worked on making Thanksgiving cards for important people in our lives like mom and dad. We wrote about what we are thankful for. When we were finished, we decorated them with leaves using a leaf rubbing technique.

Subtraction of large numbers:
Mme taught us how to subtract using large numbers. Some of us had difficulty doing it, but with practice we will get better.

Continents, Oceans & Canada:

In Social Studies class we are learning about continents, oceans and Canada. In our duotangs we had to colour the 7 continents and the 4 largest oceans. On the Smart board Mme showed us pictures of the world and it's continents. We labeled the oceans and the continents. We also situated Canada on the map.

French sounds:
Mme put up French sounds on the wall for us to use when we are writing in French. There are lots of different sounds, but the one's that are on the wall are used the most often when writing.

Police Presentation:
On Wednesday we had a police officer come to our school for a presentation. She showed us a slide and we watched a video called Retro Bill. The police officer told us about the dangers of strangers.

Fun Lunch today:
For lunch today we're having pizza. We ordered the pizza from Boston Pizza.

Hello October

This week we started spirit buddies. We have three people in a group and we have the chance every morning to greet and talk with our spirit buddies about anything that's on our mind.

Now we have two buddy reading groups. One group is with the grade 1's in Mme. Rothwell's class and the other group is with the grade 2's in Mme. Kirk and M. Lacroix's class. Both classes are very nice.

The Cross Country group participated in three races this week. The season finished on Thursday. The grade 4 girls came in 1st place for two out of the three races. Congratulations to Quinn who came in 1st place for the grade 4 girls! Congratulations to all that participated in the races!

At the start of October we changed our desks around.  With our new groups we made new group names. The names are...Frites de N.Y., les cremes glacees, Fruits du Dragon, and D.Q.B. We are excited to get to know more about our friends.

This week we worked in math centres. In the math centres we played lots of different addition and subtraction games. We also made different graps in our groups.

Today we have an assembly in the school gym. Every month we recognize two students from our class. This month. Quinn and Brooklyn were chosen to be recognized because they are both good friends and are always willing to help others. Bravo Quinn et Brooklyn!

Welcome back!
Its our third week of school and we have some exciting events going on.
Today is the Terry Fox Run. We are running around the school field and raising money to help make his dream come true.
We all donated a "Toonie" for Terry!
Today is buddy reading day with the grade 1's. We help them learn to read and to become better readers.
We had lots of fun doing graphs in math. Some of us had a cross country race at Sansome School, and played games like "Jackpot" at recess.
As a class, we all came up with some classroom jobs and take turns  doing those jobs for the week.
We have each taken out a chapter book from the classroom library and are working on a wanted poster to describe the main character of the story.
We have finished our colour poems and art piece. They are on display in the classroom and in the hallway. Please stop in and have a look at these amazing works of art.
